Strange (or maybe not). When I first tried it, I did it on a folder that was an alias to a folder that resides somewhere else and it didnā€™t change the color of the folder on the desktop. It only changed it in the Finder in for the real folder. But as I was playing around with making folders icons based on your comment (which I had never heard of), I tried a different un-aliased folder and it worked perfectly.
