Loving Aiko - speech to text transcription on iOS

Having been alerted to Sindre Sorhus’s new app Scratchpad, I was looking at some of his other offerings.

Aiko is amazing… I’ve been looking for something like this, working locally, for a while. It’s working fine on my iPhone 12 Pro for my purposes which is transcribing YouTube videos (which I download as MP3) and Podcasts so I can process the information in them more effectively.

I don’t know if the transcription is perfect, but it’s good enough for what I’m doing. And - amazingly - the app is free. It uses OpenAI’s Whisper.

For youtube videos, I watch them at 2 or 2.5 x speed or have them loaded into PocketCasts to watch at 2x speed with Mad Max silence trimming.
I will give Aiko a try.

Fun fact: Aiko is a Japanese name that means Child of Love or Love Child (Ai = Love Ko = Child)

How does that happen? Is it a paid feature to upload YouTube vids to Pocketcasts?

I have a convoluted and semi-automatic system.

4K video downloader on my Mac downloads audio versions of certain youtube videos to iCloud Drive. When I’m ready, I load them into PocketCasts.
