Scratchpad - new jot-a-note app from Sindre Sorhus

Sindre Sorhus (the app-producing whirlwind behind 38 free Mac apps, 15 free iOS apps, and a handful of paid apps, all high quality) has a new app out: Scratchpad.

It’s a plain text scratchpad, launchable from the dock, menu bar, or keyboard shortcut, and can be synced between your devices with iCloud.

It’s currently free.

I know there’s competing apps for these purposes, but so far Scratchpad hits the simplicity sweet spot for me. And I share Sindre’s appreciation of unicorns, so it clearly must be the best choice.

It’s a nice app, like all of Sindre’s. If you’re looking for a dead-simple app with slightly more functionality (Markdown support, checkboxes and additional fonts), I’d recommend Quick Draft. Both apps have Shortcuts support.

I’ll second Quick Draft. The syncing between Mac and iOS is another plus.

What a useful idea for a tool. Unfortunately I’ve encountered a few bugs - iCloud sync isn’t working, on iPhone in dark mode the text is disappearing. (I’m on the public beta of iOS, so it might be that). I’ll give Quick Draft a go.

I love the ethos of simplicity behind his apps, though.
