I’ve not seen much mention of Sindre Sorhus’s website, so I thought I’d flag it properly in here. Most of the apps are just tiny quality of life apps that do specific things that make Mac life better, so they probably don’t get much discussion because they just do one thing really well, but this is the kind of thing that I (and I suspect folks here!) really appreciate!
I already use Hyperduck, which is a utility app for i*OS and MacOS that sends links from iPad/iPhone to Mac via the share sheet. It is really useful, it simply opens the URL you’re looking at on your Mac browser.
@laptopllama flagged Scratchpad last month in the forum, which is a plain text note for i*OS and Mac (I don’t use this but I can see how it would be handy!).
This weekend I’ve set up System Color Picker, because I have long been frustrated with the native Mac colour picker and this app seems to be what Apple should’ve been offering. You can choose what format you get your colour codes in, you can set up a shortcut for the picker, and most importantly you can put it in the menu bar so you can launch it at any time. All that, and it’s free! Anyone doing design-adjacent work probably needs this in their life!
I’ve realised that Dato from Sindre could actually replace some of the key functions I need from BusyCal, which is the menu item showing next meeting, quick launch of the meeting link, and the day’s schedule from menu bar. I’ve not set it up yet as I’m still running an [out of date] version of BusyCal and haven’t decided what to do with BusyCal in future, but this gives me new options to consider.
The Day Progress app just adds an icon to the menu bar which shows you how much time is remaining in your work day (you can set it to your own timeframe). This is really useful if you need this visual cue during the day to see time remaining. You can choose from a few different symbols, which days the menu icon presents on, and a few other settings. And it’s free!
There’s some very interesting clock apps that I’m planning to explore in more detail as well. There are other things I don’t need but I can see how other people would find them useful, so have fun exploring the library and pop your recommendations in here!
