I recently switched back to Safari, having used Edge. I prefer its apparent security (too many options to stop Edge collecting data) and it’s part of the OS so I assume is battery friendly. It’s well integrated with Apple Pay and the in-built passwords app.
From time to time, however, I find a page simply freezes meaning it either doesn’t load properly or won’t scroll. Sometimes it sorts itself out, sometimes not. Facebook is a common culprit, but I find other sites also have the issue, especially but not exclusively if they have embedded media. I am guessing it’s JavaScript hanging somewhere, possibly due to security in Safari, although opening a new tab and pasting the URL in there usually causes the page to load normally in that tab.
I’ve tried disabling extensions and turning off privacy settings, but with no effect.
I have had so many problems with Safari on MacOS that I have pretty much given up on it. Too many sites that don’t load, are slow to load or partially load. I have to wonder if it is the way the sites are programmed. I have none of these problems on Chromium-based browsers.
I find the occasional web page that does not load and my working theory is that some of my content blockers are messing with the web popups and that makes Safari unresponsive. But i prefer to deal with that opening the webpage in another browser rather than fiddling with the mess of content blockers I am running…
It seems that way. I disabled all my extensions on Safari so the inherent problem seems to be within Safari itself.
I’ve switched back to Edge on MacOS and it’s smooth as butter! My main complaint is you can’t run extensions on Edge on iOS (yet) but it does support native Adblock.
Not sure of the solution. I also have had so many problems with Safari on MacOS from before upgrading to Sonoma, and now it just hangs completely. I also abandoned it and use Chrome which has been solid for several years. Chrome will sync bookmarks and open tabs across devices so that’s handy. There are good Extensions available for it too depending on what you use. The biggest win for me has been the Todoist and Evernote webclippers.
