The Ezra Klein Show
More than 2 decades and more than 1,000 episodes, and itâs still going strong. Many believe that there is no finer example of sustained public service broadcast excellence anywhere.
Every week three leading academics meet the presenter Melvyn Bragg (one of the giants of British broadcasting) around the table for 45 minutes to discuss their research in the fields of History, Science, Culture, Religion and Philosophy
One week the topic may be the Beginnings of Life, or Plankton or the Migration of Birds, the next The Treaty of Versailles, or Platoâs symposia, the week after Automata or Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
Itâs fabulously generous in the range and depths of the topics it studies.
Itâs pitched at the intelligent layperson, so while it doesnât shy away from complexity, it does avoid specialist jargon as much as possible, and it scrupulously avoids political controversy. You just get experts in their fields discussing the latest state of play.
If youâve not come across it before, then youâre in for a treatâŚ
Into the Aether is a self-described âlow-key video game podcastâ. I heard about from Viticci on a podcast years ago and have been a devoted listener ever since.
This year it was The Watch, which makes sense since it releases twice a week and my aching nostalgia for the shoegaze era is stronger than ever.
Thatâs a great show. Their summer hiatus always keeps them from being most-listened-to, but I should dive into their back catalog more often during those times.
Two thumbs way way up for In Our Time!
I listen to a lot of podcasts, but I never skip an episode of The Grey Area with Sean Illing or Odd Lots with Joe Weisenthal and Tracy Alloway.
For tech related podcasts, Iâve gravitated to Hard Fork and The Vergecast, mostly for the banter and non-Apple centric topics.
I thought this was sarcasm and judging my podcast choices.
