I’m motivated but in the middle of work projects . not interested in bricking any devices.
I started using 18.1 RC last week, and have just installed a very small update to the official 18.1 5 minutes ago.
No problems so far. I like the new look of Siri. I like type to Siri. The Apple intelligence writing stuff looks nice, but isn’t especially useful, so far, though I imagine it will get better over time.
Nothing bricked!
I’m waiting for you folks to beta-test this … and will test out AI when it becomes available for us in 18.4
I updated all of my devices this morning, no issues.
I updated all my devices already … but being in Germany this update is certainly less fun than for others … guess I need to get excited about fixes
Is that new somehow? I’ve been using type to Siri for several years but it has been the same old bad Siri so not really much use.
Is the new Siri “better” when you type to it?
You can access Type to Siri by double tapping at the very bottom of the screen, and, talk to Siri by using the buttons. It was previously one or the other.
As for using it differently, apparently it has been improved, but I’ve not used it enough to tell if it’s better or not.
None of our iOS and iPadOS devices are capable of Apple Intelligence. They all upgraded with no issues.
The only Mac on 15.1 is Intel. So no AI. I do have a new MacBook Air on 15.2. So far, with only the first developer beta, it is a dud with few of the 15.2 promised AI additions actually working.
The good (?) news is you can disable Apple Intelligence in System Settings if you don’t want it, and it doesn’t appear to take any space if your device isn’t capable.
Thanks for the kind words. I’m humbled to have been asked. I’ve not listened to it and don’t plan to. I learned a long time ago not to listen to my presentations as I tend to be hyper-critical of myself.
The Mac beta seems a little less stable than past years. I’ve had some system freezes including last week on 15.1. EDIT: no problems over past week with current system and app updates - perhaps issue was fixed.
Updated “everything”, for the security fixes.
(AI won’t be available in the EU until April 2025, but I have no FOMO at all)
My 2 AI-capable devices have been upgraded, but I haven’t used them enough yet to know if there’s anything wonky.
The additional download required for photo cleanup took a bit of time but the feature itself is looking decent so far.
FYI: 18.1 also contains 28 security patches.
So you have to join a waitlist before you get the new features??
Yes but I was only on it a few hours today.
20 minutes for me…….
OK, just took an hour for me. Weird, why have a waitlist if it’s only for an hour?
Maybe there’s not a lot of people signing up?
I wasn’t told there was a waitlist. 5-10 minutes to download whatever was needed for photo cleanup and that was it.
