What are your favorite Christmas songs?

Somewhat inspired by @MacSparky’s thread I came up with a silly idea while waiting for Christmas, and since a snowball fight is out of the question - what’s your favourite Christmas song(s)? :joy:

I’ll go first

  1. Chris Rea - Driving Home For Christmas
  2. The Pogue feat. Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale of New York
  3. Slade - Merry X-Mas Everybody

I love holiday music – and have a ton of it so these are just the three that leap to mind right now.

I agree with you on Driving Home for Christmas. My additions:

  1. Perry Como - There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays

  2. Tim Minchin - White Wine in the Sun

  3. Tom Petty - Chrismas All Over Again

Sting - If On a Winter’s Night is a favorite of mine. It is on the (self titled) record If On A Winter’s Night, which has some other great songs on it too.

Also a big fan of Tim Minchin’s White Wine in the Sun @anneperez, great choice.

Santa Claus Go Straight to The Ghetto - James Brown

Chiron Beta Prime - Jonathan Coulton

Father Christmas - The Kinks

These are all so great. I also have mad love for Bob Dylan’s Christmas album, Christmas in the Heart, especially the song “Must Be Santa.”

Wow, that is almost exactly the playlist I mentioned while discussing this in my family. I only would swap number 3 for „Santa Clause is coming to town“ by Bruce Springsteen.

That is one wicked Christmas song, too

We seem to have a similar taste in christmas songs

Here are some more songs I love:

The Pretenders - Have yourself a merry little Christmas (actually, I love most versions of this song, but this is my favorite)

Coldplay - Christmas Lights

I think the classic Pretenders Xmas song is ‘2000 Miles’:

I think so, too

So I’ve started listening to my Christmas playlist and when this came up it punched me right in the feels.

Have yourself a merry little christmas
Let your heart be light
Next year all our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the yuletide gay
Next year all our troubles will be miles away

Once again as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithfull friends who are near to us
Will be dear to us
Once more

Somedays soon we all will be together
If the fates allow
Until then we’ll have tomorrows through somehow
So have yourself a merry little Christmas, now

I nominate the Judy Garland version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas as the official Christmas song of 2020.

This is one of my favorites:

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has come to make you new?
This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you.

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will calm the storm with His hand?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little Baby you kissed the face of God?

Mary did you know.

The blind will see.
The deaf will hear.
The dead will live again.
The lame will leap.
The dumb will speak
The praises of The Lamb.

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
The sleeping Child you’re holding is the great “I am”

I like most of the classics, but I’ve recently been enjoying All I Want for Christmas is a Real Good Tan
