Go for it! A nice night of tweaking. Follow the instructions in the video, but change Debian 9 for Debian 10 otherwise it won’t work. It is actually quite straightforward.
The basic tier for 3CX is free as long as you don’t take their hosting (which in this case is in AWS).
The hosting for AWS is free for 1 year if you are eligible for the free tier. After that, the Debian 10 nano instance costs $0.006/hr > $0.14/day > $52.56/year
I have not checked what AWS charges for SIP Trunk and number in the US. I have applied for a UK number, but have not had a response yet. In the meantime, I use another Voip account I already had.
I got my Mini yesterday, I really like the portability but I am still picking up my 11 inch pro to watch Netflix.
I was using the mini to take notes during meetings today in Notability and it works well for that.
Will try to read a book on it rather than use my kindle, I assume it will be easier to highlight, etc but I liked that the e-ink display was easy on the eyes.
If I had a 12.9 inch pro, I think the mini would be a great fit in my lineup, but owning a 11 inch pro makes it a harder sell. I plan to try it for about a month and then decide what to do.
Sounds like a reasonable price to me. This solution is so convenient as it works on every device. Have even given “extensions” to overseas family and friends. The call quality is really good.
The only thing I don’t know yet is if there are hidden cloud costs associated with traffic generated. I will keep a close eye on my billing page and see if any charges pop up. But so far the cost of this is reasonable for the convenience. Even more so when you bring travel and roaming into the mix.
When I was watching that video I immediately said bingo! Just wanted to do it and make it work. I have been doing calls on my iPad all day today.
Exceedingly minor iPad mini nitpick: On the Lock Screen in portrait orientation with the power button at the top, the Touch ID button icon and text in the upper right cover the battery percentage and wireless status.
My wife finally asked if she could replace her iPad (6th generation) which was 9.7-inch. She doesn’t want to get a bigger iPad, so she’s test driving my iPad mini to see if she’ll like it. If so, we may have two iPad mini’s in the house.
same here … Just had to order a second. The first one got hijacked at first sight. Luckily it had not my favourite colour (which was not available when I bought it). Now I have to wait as even Apple Store in UK will not have stock until well in November…
Oh boy. I’d do exactly the same. For sure. If anyone knows a way to make that work within Germany please leave a comment.
Quick research due to excitement: GlocalMe Simbox would also support Germany but it is currently unavailable. On German Amazon reviews are very mixed and rather negative.
The Simbox seems to be in short supply everywhere.
It is definitely more available in Asia, where the solution is popular, especially for people moving to other countries who want to keep their numbers active without roaming cost. It is available in HK with international shipping options.
I have got a few Simboxes running in different countries and have no issues with them. Call quality is good, SMS and voicemail work as normal. The only disadvantage is you can’t use the numbers for iMessage/Facetime
My ipad mini delivered yesterday. For reference, I have an M1 Mac Mini that I used as my desktop in the office, when the kids are asleep. During the day, I am on my iPad Pro 12.9 (Gen 3). I purchased the mini on the basis that it would be a small reader, notebook, and I can give my sermons from it. I know I am being overly critical, but few things…
I didn’t realize how reliant I am on Face ID. Using the Touch ID is annoying to me now more than ever. I had issues with it previously before Face ID was released. After putting a case and my oversized hands, there has an always been an issue with Touch ID for me.
I am not sure if its just me or ‘in my head’. I know the iPad Pro has the A12X chip and the Mini has the A15, but it feels like the Mini is still sluggish for some reason.
I actually am not whether I will keep it or not, for the first time I am debating of returning an Apple Device.
