The hardest decision……M1 Pro Chip or M1 Max Chip!!! UGHHHHHHHHHH!! What’s everyone ordering and why?!
Well, they’re up on the Apple site, but the store slow as sin right now.
One thing they didn’t mention in the presentation is that there’s a lot more than two CPU options.
The Pro is available with 8 or 10 CPU cores and 14 or 16 GPU cores. The Max is available with 24 or 32 GPU cores.
Whew.
My next 5–10-year computer gets here on Tuesday.
I went all the way, except for SSD space. Luckily there is a 0% interest monthly payment option.
all the way on the Max option?
I was not quite fast enough and got bogged down in the rush. Finally was able to get to checkout in the Apple Store app on my iPad. Had to delete the three duplicate MBPs that wound up in my bag (I don’t need four of these!). Then, after all of that, it told me my address and phone number were invalid.
Eventually got that fixed and successfully checked out. It’ll be here November 5-10.
14" M1 Pro, Silver, 10 core CPU, 14 core GPU, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD.
Assuming we get the same CPU options in the big iMac, I’ll probably got M1 Max/64GB there. I think that for my use case it’ll make more sense to get the big GPU in a desktop.
Yea. 16" M1 Max, 64gb.
Don’t let me sway you, though. I suspect this is a silly amount of power for my needs. But I hope to grow into it with future data and systems science work.
Wow. These things are beasts. Trying to justify…. Be right back
I was hoping for a Mac Mini upgrade. But my wife needs the upgrade. She’s using a 16 inch standard MBP from 2012. Pharmacist by day, but at night…graphic designer, engraver, calligrapher, creative mindset. LOL. I have sympathy when I see her open Illustrator and it jumps a few times until it finally decides to open.
No new Mini, no sales.
A tad disappointed. I want to switch back to a desktop. And not again an MBP. No matter the specs. And especially not when that machine costs €4.300.
Hm. This is interesting.
My M1 MBP (16GiB/1TiB) that I bought Jan 2 for $1759 would now cost $1899.
Trade in value $900.
Pass for now.
Expensive day. I was looking forward to this :). Bought a silver 16" with 64gb and 2tb storage
I pulled the trigger on the base 14” model with 512gb. When factoring in the additional cost of 16gb in the 13” Pro, larger screen and other rationalizations, I figured why not. Won’t be delivered until Nov 5-10 so that gives me time to come to my senses
getting this for my wife…anniversary gift.
Had to remove the annual Apple Care to get the monthly payments.
Seems like the desktops are all going to be another event. I’m hoping they make the Mini at least available with one of the upgraded units. I think the only real reason they wouldn’t is if they think sales of that model would be too low to justify it.
Starting a countdown for a “Mac Pros aren’t getting any love” post…

I just realized that Apple did not announce the release date of Monterey. I was expecting the OS release to coincide with the release of new Macs.
the whole event felt rushed. I guess they learned from that snoozefest in June…
I thought I saw Oct 25 someplace?
