Give me the betas!!!
I think a big bright side of the more modest updates this year is a greater confidence in installing betas.
At least the basic ones, finally. (Or copied Linux circa 2006.)
Wonder how long we’ll wait for them to sherlock halfway decent menubar management…
Better than built into the OS?
I’m glad they’re finally doing this but I still want a password manager like Bitwarden that works on any platform.
I am quite excited about the new features that have been announced, and I’m sure there are more on Apple’s site that they did not have time to announce. For my workflow I’m delighted that I’ve relied on Apple’s apps. I think I’ll get the best overall experience with Apple Intelligence with the native apps, but I could be wrong. I was particularly impressed with what can not we done in Apple Notes and the writing tool in Mail and Pages.
Funny, with all the amazing updates, that Reminders integration into Calendars will probably give me the biggest productivity boost. One of my favorite features of OmniFoucs was being able to see my actions alongside my appointments. In a set of updates that was full of things I think will be impactful for me, it’s still little touches like this that are sometimes the most impactful on a day-to-day basis.
I’m especially excited about the handwriting features.
Also, I can’t tell you how many notes I have that include tabulations of numbers that I wish i could quickly sum. I can’t tell you when I’ve ever needed to calculate the velocity and height of a ping pong ball; however, I do have to perform lots of little calculations; so, this will be great.
M365 tasks syncing with reminders and calendar makes them a big win. I’m bound to them unless I duplicate events. Fantastical has long been off the table, and same with apps like Agenda. I can’t even get my work calendar to show in OmniFocus.
This one little update could give me the nudge to these apps.
Unfortunately, as I predicted, just about nothing for HomeKit / Smart Home.
(Robot vacuums, wireless lock control, guest mode, added controls incl 3rd on control panel, etc. incremental, nothing really significant)
Looks like ChatGPT (and potentially other 3rd party AI cloud engines) is Freemium model. (They said "you can also connect your paid ChatGPT account for access to more capability).
Should I cancel my Grammarly subscription? Did it just get Sherlocked?
The Math calc looks exciting? Doesn’t it Sherlock Soulver?
If Apple Password app is only iCloud web interface on Windows, I guess I’ll be keeping 1Password around for a bit longer…
I didn’t see anything in the Keynote about password sharing. There’s also the familiarity level/learning curve issue, as my parents are both in their very late 70s.
Will the new Siri experience work on HomePods?
I feel like HomeKit was a missed opportunity. I’m holding tight to all my HKSV cameras because it doesn’t seem like any more are really being made. All the big companies want you to subscribe to their services.
And the Notes app is getting very powerful and feature rich.
I plan to cancel if Apple’s Intelligence is intelligent enough. I’ll want to test it for a while first.
I’ll have to watch the keynote again but I think I heard something about a “Miscrosoft Recall” like feature but secure by Apple standards.
Looks like I need to update my iPhone; I have a 13. Looks like the 16 needs to be in my budget.
Given the updates to Mail, I’m disappointed that creating a PDF and a Sharesheet was not included.
So glad I bought the M4 iPad Pro so I can harness all that power in the new Calculator app.

You can already do this without the standalone app.
I get the learning curve though.
I was hoping for more mail updates, including the a Sharesheet. However, i don’t mind using print, and pinching to create a pdf. I just wish that I could batch PDF a selected set of e-mail messages. That would be quite useful for my work.
